The nunchaku is a weapon with a link to your past: whether you’ve watched too many ninja turtles or imitated Bruce Lee with two sticks connected with a shoelace. Nunchaku-do, however, is one of the youngest Martial Arts, and currently perhaps the fastest!
During training you learn how to control the nunchaku, to fight with it and perform freestyle show elements, meaning classes are guaranteed challenging. Nunchaku-do is a difficult sport to master, so you have to possess some perseverance in order to master it. You work on your physical shape, you hit yourself at the back of your head and you train in one of the most driven nunchaku-clubs in the Netherlands. Not terrified yet? Sign up for a try-out!
The instructor is Hannah Jalink (3rd dan). First check out this footage of her winning the European Championship! When she got a black belt in 2011, she decided to start teaching Nunchaku. Meanwhile, Hannah has won multiple national and european titles, and is therefore one of the best female nunchakuka’s of the moment.
For this training you just need some sweat pants and a short sleeve t-shirt. Men are advised to wear a toque. During the first training sessions you can borrow a nunchaku. You can also buy your own for € 22. Ask your instructor.
Nunchaku-do at the USC offers you the opportunity of measuring your skills against an opponent during tournaments. Tournaments include kumite (one-on-one fight), kata (form) and freestyle (demonstration with tricks). Some of the students at USC compete on national level, so there is always a possibility to continue learning. Is competition not really your thing? Recreational members are also more than welcome!
Are you a sports fanatic? Are you interested in various sports? The USC passe-partout is the right thing for you! This membership comprises a whole lot of different sports. Nunchaku is part of the passe-partout.
