In cooperation with the Amsterdam Crusaders, the USC offers you American Football.
The USC cooperates with the Amsterdam Crusaders. This allows students to join this fun club at a reduced tariff and participate in this cool, tactical sport. We play on the field at Sportpark Sloten. The competition season runs from March to July. Outside of the competition season, we offer training sessions both indoors and outdoors. Of course, you’re free to check out some of our training sessions to see if you like it, or train alongside us to get a good impression of the sport and the club.
The Crusaders were started in 1984 and are, alongside the Rotterdam Trojans and the Alphen Eagles, the oldest still active team in the Netherlands. Now, the Amsterdam Crusaders are the most successful American Football team in the Netherlands. So far, they’ve won the Tulip Bowl (the Dutch Championships) 14 times, most recently in 2008. In addition, they’ve won the Eurobowl twice.
Remarkably, the Crusaders are the only Dutch team to spawn an NFL player. After his time in Amsterdam, Romeo Bandison played for the Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins.
You can also play flag football at the Crusaders. They have both junior and senior teams playing in the Dutch competition. Please contact the club if you’d like more information about flag football.
Your jersey – the outfit you play in – will be supplied by the club. You have to provide your own socks, shoes, and potential clothing for underneath your jersey. In theory, you should also provide your own protection (helmet, shoulder pads, etc.) but the club has a limited number you can borrow during your first few training sessions and competitions.
